Curriculum
Languages
Students in the Master of Arts in Global Communication & Applied Translation (GCAT) program can enhance their English proficiency by pairing it with numerous other languages through CMU's collaboration with Global Wordsmiths, a local social enterprise specializing in translation and interpretation services across more than 40 languages. Additionally, Global Wordsmiths offers training and consulting opportunities.
Students will engage in:
- Translation from English as the Source Language into their primary language (or language of highest proficiency) as the Target Language
- Translation from their primary language (or language of highest proficiency) into English as their Target Language.

Courses
The GCAT master's program features a curriculum that combines core courses in the theory and practice of applied translation with a selection of electives from the Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics (LCAL) and other departments.
Please note: all elective courses must be discussed and approved by a GCAT program advisor.
A minimum of 117 units are required to complete the GCAT master's program.
